AC: Iraq: The Hidden Wars

The entire second hour of AC360 was the complete interview Anderson did with Michael last week. It amounts to an impressive primer on the several wars going on inside Iraq. They broke it up into six sections, and I've done the same with the clips in order to make them easier to download.

This is an amazing hour and ought to be required viewing in Washington... I wonder whether Jack Cafferty is sending copies to everyone there?

AC: Interview preview

Before leaving to return to Baghdad, Michael sat down with Anderson Cooper for an interview. Tonight we get two sections of it: one dealing with Michael's abduction on Haifa Street by Zarqawi's men in September of 2004 and the other with how Iran was able to exploit the coalition's invasion into Iraq for their own purposes and position themselves strategically deep inside the country.

Length: 9:24

TSR: "...there's very little alternative."

Michael talks to Wolf in more detail about the cross-purposes of the Iraqi troops we are training.

Length: 4:33

LDT: "It's more of the same."

Michael and General David Grange join Lou to discuss the surge plan and what kind of effectiveness it may have.

Length: 4:36

TSR: "I'm surprised that it is still a question."

Michael speaks with Wolf about what exactly the various Iraqi groups are fighting for -- Iraq or sectarian interests? And how we are training and arming groups who are not exactly on our side.

AC: "Been there, done that."

Mick speaks with Anderson about how long it will take to see whether the surge works -- not even two months. Then again, it is not a new plan, not one that will resolve the problem. The insurgents will melt out of Baghdad and wait for us to leave, same as they did in Tal'Afar, Fallujah, Ramadi, etc, etc. etc.

Length: 3:47

TSR: "Completely baseless."

Mick is in NYC, speaking with Wolf Blitzer as a follow-up to Wolf's interview with VP Cheney, in which Cheney professes to have full confidence in Nouri al-Maliki and the Iraqi government's ability to rein in Muqtada al-Sadr.

Jack Cafferty tags on a comment about the number of e-mails they received asking where Mick has been. (I know I've been swamped by them, too -- a lot of people are glad to see him again!)

AC: In DC for SotU reaction: "Where is the hope?"

Mick joins Anderson for reaction to the SotU address. Like most people who have been studying the situation, he doesn't see a lot of promise to the surge -- the plan will be putting our troops in even more danger, and he wonders whether the American public is prepared for that.

Length: 3:01

SotU pre-speech coverage

Mick is in DC for coverage and commentary of the State of the Union address. And for the first time, seriously, ever, we get to see him in a suit jacket! (He looks great tonight -- rested, laughing, very relaxed.)

He also tells Wolf and Paula that he is heading back to Iraq next weekend, so we'll be hearing much more from him very soon.
