Michael shreds John McCain's bizarre assertions that Americans can walk safely in some neighborhoods in Baghdad and that General David Petraeus drives around in an unarmed Humvee. McCain's condescension while speaking to Wolf is like hearing a new version of the Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld Wall of Lies.

AC: Killing children

Michael has been investigating the report of a weekend car-bombing that used children as decoys to pass through a checkpoint. The children were reportedly left inside the car when it was detonated. (I had assumed the kids were abducted from the "other" side of the sectarian divide; more horrifying, it may be that the bombers thought they were doing the children a favor by sending them to Allah more swiftly.)

Michael's prepared report on the story he previewed on TSR: a power struggle for supremacy between the CIA in Iraq (and the intelligence agency they front) and a new agency being championed by the Shiite-led government (with ties to Iran.) The latter is trying to force out the former, a move that would essentially blind us and give Iran the upper hand.

TSR: "...legislation...that will gut the CIA's influence here..."

After a week off, Michael is back with news about legislation currently before the Iraqi parliament that will prevent the CIA from working effectively inside Iraq. It would be a clear victory for Iran in the tug-of-war for control of Iraq.
